Now we're taking that fire further. The first "Meat" Up is not the finish line — it's the starting point. We're building a community, building the gees and getting South Africa ready for The Big Save to bring thousands of people together around the fire and take on a world-record braai.

South Africa, let's bring the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title home.
On 24 September 2026, thousands of South Africans will gather at Loftus Versfeld for another official attempt at the record for the most people grilling/barbecuing simultaneously — although here at home, we call it a braai.
In 2025, 2,412 people were officially counted in the braai area — more than the standing record of 2,220 — but the attempt was not certified because participants were required to remain at their allocated braai stations for the full official braai period. In 2026, the process is tighter, clearer and built around getting the record officially over the line.
The official braai runs from 09:00 – 12:00, with all 3,000 participants braaiing together at 10:00 sharp. All you need to bring is yourself.
Once the record attempt is complete, the festival runs from 12:00 – 20:00 with live entertainment, food, family zones and plenty of South African gees.
